Is Sleep & Relaxation Eluding You?

With a whole host of stressors and tasks that fill our everyday lives, being able to relax and get a good night’s sleep should not be on the list. We can no longer take getting a good night’s sleep for granted.

You may feel as though you’re doing everything possible to get you to that elusive sleep – organic mattress, high thread-count sheets, comfortable pillows, powering down your devices a good 30 minutes before bedtime, and whatever else you think will relax you. Yet, you still find yourself looking at the ceiling or tossing and turning well into the night.

The answer may be as simple as adding magnesium. Magnesium is a trace mineral that is naturally occurring in the human body and more than 300 critical enzymes found in the body rely on it. According to the National Institute of Health some of the jobs these enzymes play a role in include contracting your muscles, producing energy and protein, blood pressure, nerve function, glucose levels, and helping you to de-stress and sleep. Suffice to say, if you are not getting sufficient daily amounts of magnesium, it could be having an effect on your whole body.

Psychology Today has been quick to point out that magnesium is one of the 24 most important nutrients for your body, and a deficiency can impact the quality of your sleep. Lower levels of magnesium can lead to you feeling anxious and stressed out, and even depression, which contributes to trouble falling asleep.

There are several ways to add magnesium from improving your diet to taking supplements. The easiest and most convenient way is to use a topical oil or cream containing magnesium. Studies by the National Sleep Foundation showed that magnesium helps to support high quality sleep and is a much better alternative to taking sleeping pills.

Over time data has shown that anywhere from half to three-quarters of all adults are likely to be deficient in magnesium. Data also points to one conclusion: sleep is vital for your wellbeing! If everything you have tried up to this time has not improved the quality of your sleep, you may want to try adding magnesium cream to your nightly regimen. You may also want to ask your massage therapist about adding magnesium cream or oil to your massage.
