Exfoliating Your Body for Softer Skin

Exfoliation describes any process meant to remove dead skin from the body. This is a simple process that can easily be done from your home and at a minimal cost. There are two main types of exfoliation, physical and chemical. Physical exfoliation requires you to actually scrub your skin, while chemical is peeling of the dead skin using a lotion containing acids. Whichever technique you choose, a regular routine will ensure your skin feeling and looking softer.

Start the process with a nice warm bath or shower. Warm water will help to open your pores to allow a deeper cleaning. Soak for a good 15 minutes and use a perfume-free soap. After soaking, you will be able to rub a lot of dead skin off with your hands, especially on your feet and toes.

Next, rub your skin with a textured sponge or rough feeling wash cloth. Whatever you use, it should not be too abrasive or cause any pain. For those tough areas on the backs of arms and legs, you may want to try a natural bristle brush.

Begin scrubbing your body from your feet moving upward. Starting at the bottom will help to encourage positive blood circulation. You will want to use small circular motions. Give extra attention to heels, knees and elbows as they tend to be the areas that are most dry.

Finish the exfoliation treatment by rinsing with hot water to rinse away the dead skin and to help relax you, follow up with a good moisturizer. You should see an immediate difference in the look and feel of your skin. It is recommended that you repeat this process 2-3 times per week to maintain the effects.
